We’re currently looking for volunteers who would like to join The Pride Shop / Pride Space CIC team. The Pride Shop is a space where LGBTQ+ and allies can come to socialise, enjoy coffee, cake and sandwiches as well as purchase LGBTQ+ related gifts and products.

The venue also hosts workshops, classes and other events in association with Pride Space CIC.

You must be 18 years and older to volunteer for us.

🔹 1. Event Planning Assistant (Volunteer)

Purpose: Support the planning and coordination of community events, workshops, and outreach activities.

Key Tasks:

  • Assist in sourcing speakers, and materials.
  • Help with event logistics and scheduling.
  • Coordinate with vendors and community partners.
  • Attend planning meetings and take notes.

Skills & Experience:

  • Organized and detail-oriented.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Interest in event management or community engagement.

Time Commitment: 4–6 hours/week (flexible)


🔹 2. Event Host/Facilitator (Volunteer)

Purpose: Act as the welcoming face of the Pride Space CIC during community events and workshops.

Key Tasks:

  • Greet attendees and provide information.
  • Introduce speakers or facilitators.
  • Support audience engagement and manage Q&A.
  • Monitor sessions to ensure they run smoothly.

Skills & Experience:

  • Confident speaking in public.
  • Friendly, professional demeanor.
  • Calm under pressure and problem-solving mindset.

Time Commitment: Event-based; typically evenings or weekends.


🔹 3. Marketing & Promotions Volunteer

Purpose: Help promote events and services to the local community through digital and print channels.

Key Tasks:

  • Design and schedule social media posts.
  • Create promotional materials (posters, flyers, e-newsletters).
  • Assist with outreach to press, schools, and partner orgs.

Skills & Experience:

  • Basic graphic design (Canva or similar) and copywriting.
  • Familiar with social media platforms.
  • Creative and community-oriented.

Time Commitment: 3–5 hours/week.


🔹 4. Volunteer Therapist/Counsellor

Purpose: Provide pro bono therapy/counselling sessions to individuals or groups in need.

Key Tasks:

  • Deliver individual or group sessions.
  • Maintain accurate, confidential records.
  • Work under appropriate supervision or clinical governance.

Skills & Experience:

  • Recognised qualifications in therapy or counselling.
  • Insurance and registration with relevant body (e.g., BACP, UKCP).
  • Trauma-informed and culturally competent approach.

Time Commitment: 1–4 clients per week or as arranged.


🔹 5. Peer Support Volunteer

Purpose: Use lived experience to offer informal emotional support and signposting.

Key Tasks:

  • Offer peer support in group or 1-to-1 settings.
  • Share coping strategies and resources.
  • Encourage ongoing participation and self-care.

Skills & Experience:

  • Lived experience of mental health or related challenges.
  • Empathetic, non-judgmental attitude.
  • Able to maintain boundaries and follow safeguarding protocols.

Time Commitment: 2–4 hours/week.


🔹 6. Administrative Support Volunteer

Purpose: Support the day-to-day operations of the CIC.

Key Tasks:

  • Data entry and document preparation.
  • Scheduling appointments and maintaining contact lists.
  • Supporting project leads with admin tasks.

Skills & Experience:

  • Good IT and organizational skills.
  • Discreet and able to handle sensitive information.
  • Comfortable using email, Excel, Google Docs, etc.

Time Commitment: 4–6 hours/week (remote or on-site).


🔹 7. Fundraising & Grants Volunteer

Purpose: Help raise funds to support the CIC’s services and events.

Key Tasks:

  • Research grant opportunities and funding streams.
  • Assist with writing funding bids and proposals.
  • Organize small fundraising campaigns or events.

Skills & Experience:

  • Strong writing and research skills.
  • Familiarity with funding landscape (desirable).
  • Creative thinker and team player.

Time Commitment: Flexible, project-based.

🔹 8. Café and Shop Worker (Volunteer)

Purpose:
To support the daily operations of the community café and shop by serving customers, preparing light refreshments, and helping create a welcoming, inclusive environment for all visitors.


Key Tasks:

  • Serve food, drinks, and products to customers in a friendly and professional manner.
  • Handle cash and card transactions at the till.
  • Restock shelves and maintain display areas.
  • Assist with food preparation (e.g. drinks, snacks, light meals) under supervision.
  • Maintain cleanliness and hygiene in the café/shop area.
  • Engage with visitors and signpost them to other CIC services when appropriate.
  • Follow health & safety and food hygiene procedures.

Skills & Experience:

  • Friendly and approachable, with good communication skills.
  • Reliable and punctual.
  • Comfortable working in a team and with the public.
  • Experience in retail or hospitality (desirable but not required).
  • Willingness to learn food hygiene and safety procedures.

Time Commitment:

  • Minimum of one 4-hour shift per week (more if available).
  • Shifts available weekdays and weekends, mornings or afternoons.

Training & Support:

  • Optional training in customer service, food safety, or mental health awareness.
  • Full induction and on-the-job training provided.
  • Support from the Café/Shop Manager or Volunteer Coordinator.

Volunteering does not have to be an all-consuming commitment—even a couple of hours a week could make a huge difference in keeping Pride Space open and running.
